Q: Introduce yourself. Tell us where you are from, your educational background, and your work history.

A: Well, hello, my name is Jonathan Adams. I’m from California, East Bay. I’m a chiropractor, [I’ve] been only a chiropractor for a couple years now, though.

Q: And how long have you been ART certified?

A: About seven years.

Q: What got you into ART certification in the first place?

A: That’s a long story, for sure, but it’s what actually transitioned me into a new career. When I was younger, as a plumber, I did trade work. [I] went to the Union [and] had a great job with the local water company. I was there [for] about 20 years. And I was an athlete on the side, and I moonlighted in that. I discovered ART [treatment] by being treated and loved it so much. It made me so much more effective in my sports, and I felt a lot better. [I] became a massage therapist, so I could learn it and share that because I liked my groups, [and] my teams. The more time I spent within that community, the more I fell in love with it. Ultimately, I just made the big switch. I left that company, my pension, retirement, medical insurance, and everything, [and] went back to school at 40. It was tough, and [I] became a chiropractor, so I can continue this. And, man, it’s been up and up since.

Q: What keeps you coming back to stay certified?

A: I learned how to help people through massage. Then I learned how to help people through ART [treatment]. Then I learned how to help people through chiropractic. And then, I went back to ART [treatment] because it was more effective for me. It really ingrained that and the more I come the better I get. Every time I go home, I have a new trick, [which] is what I’ve been accused of.

Q: Tell us about your greatest success with ART treatment.

A: There’s a lot, are you kidding me? I have a teenager with migraines and migraines since menarche. When they first became a young lady, they had a muscle mastication issue with their medial and lateral pterygoid. Just by chance, it [ART treatment] made all the things line up for me. I treated that and she hasn’t had a migraine since, and no TMJ pain or anything. It’s one of those, “I’ve been living with this for so long”, and it was our first encounter, and they haven’t experienced it since that encounter. We all wish we can have those, right? Every time we see a new problem, let’s never see it again. So that’s probably my best success story so far. I’m lucky to have more of those.

Q: What advice would you give someone just starting their ART journey?

A: Well, they’re not lying to know your anatomy. But be patient, you know? It’s okay if you only pick up one thing, so long as you keep the cup empty and you want to keep coming back and learning. If this is your calling, you’re going to do great.
